Wireless LANs (WLANs) enable users to establish and maintain a wireless network connection throughout or between buildings, without the limitations of wires or cables. Using radio frequency technology, WLANs increase productivity among mobile employees though network access to e-mail, the Internet, or corporate networks. In-the-office productivity is available anywhere the worker has WLAN access such as a corporate building or campus, in airports, hotels, or other public wireless hotspots.

Cisco provides a family of wireless LAN products that deliver the same level of security, scalability, and manageability for WLANs that customers have come to expect in their wired LAN. The Cisco Aironet Series offers a complete line of in-building and building-to-building Wi-Fi wireless LAN solutions. The line includes access points, wireless LAN client adapters, bridges, antennas and accessories.

The Cisco Aironet Series is a key component of the Cisco Structured Wireless-Aware Network, a comprehensive framework for integrating the enterprise wired and wireless network. The Cisco Structured Wireless-Aware Network is based on Cisco IOS Software and designed for deploying, operating and managing hundreds to thousands of Cisco Aironet access points using the Cisco infrastructure. The Cisco Structured Wireless-Aware Network extends to the wireless LAN the same level of security, scalability, and reliability that customers have come to expect in their wired LAN by introducing "wireless aware" capabilities into Cisco infrastructure, including access points, client devices, switches and routers.
